Half an hour before Monday morning’s sunrise, hundreds of hunters will trek into the wild and wonderful West Virginia wilderness is search of that trophy deer.

Woodbury Outfitters in St. Clairsville say they are in full gear right now with plenty of ammunition in stock to help out hunters.

Store Manager Scott Walling says hunting is a great way to control the local deer population and let’s hunters put food on their family’s table but there is one thing every hunter needs to remember.

“Safety is key to good hunting. Always clear your target before you fire,” says Walling. “Make sure the deer you’re shooting at is what’s there. Any hunters behind it, make sure you clear all your backdrop before shooting. You don’t want to hit anybody. Safety is key to everything like that.”

Walling reminds hunters that they are only legally allowed to carry 3 shells in your gun, 1 in the chamber and 2 in your tubes and advises anyone under the age of 18 to hunt with adult supervision.

West Virginia’s season runs through December 6 while Ohio’s gun season is set to open December 1st through the 7th and Pennsylvania’s from December 1st through the 13th.
