PRINCETON, W.Va. (AP) – West Virginia officials say a man awaiting a pretrial hearing for attempted murder could be charged with biting a local sheriff’s deputy.

The Bluefield Daily-Telegraph reports Ryan Keith Tilley, 33, of Princeton, is accused of biting Mercer County Sheriff’s Deputy S.J. Cary on the left hand. Officials say Cary was bitten while he and other officers were attempting to restrain Tilley, who was kicking a metal toilet in a holding room after complaining that his handcuffs were too tight.

Cary was treated at the courthouse by the Princeton Rescue Squad and was taken to a local hospital for additional treatment. Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney George Sitler told the newspaper Tilley could face additional charges. Tilley is being held at the Southern Regional Jail in Beaver.
