West Virginia Unemployment Up Slightly

West Virginia‘s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose one-half of a percentage point to 6.6 percent in March.

WorkForce West Virginia says the number of unemployed state residents increased by 3,600 last month.

But since March 2014, total nonfarm payroll employment has dropped by 3,700 in the state.

Among the employment losses last month were 1,400 in construction, 1,000 in both mining and logging and leisure and hospitality, while professional and business services lost 800 jobs.

Employment gains in March included 400 in manufacturing and 100 in government.

Nationally, the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 5.5 percent in March.
