Health officials in the Ohio Valley say the rise of mosquitoes isn’t the main concern, it’s the diseases they could carry.
Ohio County Health Director Howard Gamble told WTRF.com, “west nile usually is an older population concern, where as la crosse and encephalitis, which is also transmitted by mosquitoes is usually for the younger group. Unfortunately in West Virginia we have both. It’s actually a big concern throughout the Mountain State.”
There are several steps you can take to prevent mosquito bites:
– If you own a pool to keep it covered and with plenty of chlorine.
– If you plan to be outside or near water at dawn or dusk, wear protective clothing such and long sleeves.
– Try to install or repair torn screens on windows and doors.
