Wheeling Central Girls Shine at State Track Meet

 The Wheeling Central girls had the highest finish of areas schools at the West Virginia State High School Track Meet in Charleston. The Lady Maroon Knights finished 2nd in Class A with 50 points, Tucker County won with 89.33. Lindsey Baker won the 300 hurdles with a time of 46.43 and was second in the 100 hurdles. The Lady Maroon Knights 4×2 team took first in a time of 1:49.17, Meghan Porter, Maria Dzmura, Nicolette Nolte and Baker. Nolte, a freshman, also won the 400 in a time of 1:00.41. The Magnolia girls finished fifth, Tyler Consolidated 12th, Valley 14th and Paden City 22nd. Magnolia’s Jordan Delaney won the 1600 with a time of 5:28, and Breanna Ritz won the 800 in 2:28.85. The Tyler Consolidated 4×1 team won gold.

The Wheeling Park girls finished 4th in AAA, behind Huntington and Winfield/Hurricane, who tied for first. The Lady Patriots 4X2 team of Morgan Glass, Kayley Miller,Nakysha McGhee and Natalie Wiethe won gold in a time of 1:44.82. McGhee was 3rd in the 100 at 12.60. The John Marshall girls finished 18th with 10 points. Torie Derrow was 3rd in the 100 hurdles and 5th in the high jump.


The Wheeling Park boys finished seventh scoring 34 points, with Martinsburg winning with 55 points. The Wheeling Park shuttle team of Tim Goldbaugh, Jake Pedelose, James Coles and Richard Cummings finished first in a time of 57.46. Cummings also won the 100 hurdles in 15.33, and was 2nd in the 300 hurdles in 39.89. Brooke finished 16th as a team, junior dandy Gavin Lewis won the 100 meter dash in a time of 11.23.

The Wheeling Central boys finished 13th in Class A with 21 points, Doddridge County won. Tyler Consolidated was sixth, Magnolia eight, Madonna ninth, and Valley finished 11th.

Berkeley Springs won 2A girls with 69.33 points, Bridgeport was second, Oak Glen finished eighth and Weir was 23rd. Ritchie County won 2A boys with 78 points, followed by Roane County and Bridgeport with 49 each. Weir was 10th and Oak Glen 16th.
