Wheeling Central Catholic High School senior Nate Bakaitis signed his letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic careers at Division II West Liberty University to play for head coach Eric Burkle.
Bakaitis, a pitcher and infielder, led the Maroon Knights in batting last season with a .429 average. He collected 33 hits in 77 at-bats, scored 27 runs and drove in 15. The speedy Bakaitis also swiped seven bases in seven attempts.
Bakaitis was also a member of the Wheeling Post 1 American Legion baseball team.
He was joined at the signing ceremony in the high school gymnasium by his parents Terri Moore and Brian Bakaitis, Wheeling Central head coach Jamey Conlin, and Wheeling Central Athletic Director Mike Young.
Bakaitis is undecided on his major at West Liberty.
