Wheeling Hospital Wins National Award

Wheeling Hospital has been named a ‘Consumer Choice Award’ winner based on a national survey.

In all, the hospital earned four awards in the survey. The awards, issued by National Research Corp., identified hospitals in the top 300
markets throughout the U.S. that health care consumers have chosen as having the highest quality and image.

In its market, Wheeling Hospital was singled out for Best Overall Quality, Best Overall Image/Reputation, Best Doctors and Best Nurses.

The NRC, based in Lincoln, Neb., conducted surveys to determine consumers’ choices of hospitals and issued awards to the top facilities. Survey winners are determined by consumer perceptions on multiple quality and image ratings collected in the company’s survey. This study surveys more than 250,000 households representing over 450,000 consumers in the contiguous 48 states and the District of Columbia. From the households surveyed, 3,200 hospitals named by consumers are analyzed and ranked based on their Core Based Statistical Areas as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau, with the winning facilities being ranked the highest.

Dr. Angelo Georges, chief medical officer, said, “We work very hard on behalf of our patients to provide the best care possible. Receiving awards and recognitions just doesn’t ‘happen.’ It takes a tremendous amount of planning and the execution of those plans every day to reach a higher level of care. We’re proud of our staff for their commitment to patient care.”

For the second year in a row, two distinct areas of care at Wheeling Hospital – cardiac care, and knee and hip replacement – have been recognized for achievement. The hospital was honored for its expertise and efficiency in delivering specialty care in those areas by being identified as a Blue Distinction Center+ by Blue Cross Blue Shield.
