A Wheeling man has been recognized by the Wheeling Fire Department for his bravery and commitment to the community.
Wheeling Fire Department Chief Larry Helms presented Tyler Harto with a special commendation for his heroic efforts in attempting to rescue three people at a fire on McColloch Street on October 31.
Harto lives in the neighborhood and rushed from his nearby home to the fire and attempted to bypass the flames to get inside.
The certificate reads in part, “…Tyler Harto, without regard for his own safety, attempted to rescue the victims trapped by the fire. The Wheeling Fire Department recognizes you for your bravery and commitment to your community.”
While Harto is not a member of the WFD, his father, Paul Harto, is and serves the Wheeling Fire Department as Assistant Fire Chief. Chief Harto also answered the call while off duty that evening.
