What will the city of Wheeling be like in the future?
Mayor Andy McKenzie plans to talk about that very subject on Tuesday, in what will be his final State of the City Address.
Mayor McKenzie says that he feels this is a very exciting time for the city.
“Wheeling has always had a lot of great things going on around the city, but downtown has always been a real struggle. The last eight years there has been a lot of time and energy and money heading into the downtown area,” added McKenzie.
The Friendly City has faced some major challenges over the years but there have also been some recent major accomplishments.
Mayor McKenzie said, “we are finally seeing a lot of dividends. I can tell you the first time in the last 30 years that I have been involved, I see people calling and saying I want to be a part of the downtown and that hasn’t happened in the past.”
The speech will take place at the Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino and Racetrack at noon on Tuesday.
We will also be streaming the entire speech live on WTRF.com.
