Wheeling Police detectives are continuing to investigate an alleged rape that happened on Wheeling Island Sunday night.
Detectives said they are now waiting on evidence to be processed in Charleston that will hopefully shed some light on who the alleged suspect is in this case.
Police said an 18-year-old Martins Ferry woman came to Wheeling Island Sunday night and befriended an unknown black man along the river bank on the north side of the Island. After some time, the two agreed to have consensual sex, but in the middle of having intercourse the female decided she no longer wanted to continue and told the man to stop, but the man allegedly refused to do so.
“She was unaware of who the subject actually was,” Wheeling Police Sgt. Matt Taylor said. “It was the first time she had met him, so the little thing about the subject that she reported to us, we’re going to follow up on and see if we can find out who it was.”
