UPDATE: The Suspension Bridge has re-opened after crews inspected the bridge.

The driver, Charles Hicks of Quitman, Mississippi, has been cited for ignoring weight and height limits.

The weight limit for the bridge is 2 tons.

Police arrived on scene around 3:00 p.m. to discover Hicks crossed the bridge on the Wheeling Island side and was stuck on the downtown side.

ORIGINAL POST:
The Wheeling Suspension Bridge is closed until further notice.

An official with the Wheeling Police Department says a truck hauling a trailer broke through the clearance sign and is stuck on the bridge.

A 28-foot long camper broke through the 8-foot clearance sign.

The driver of the vehicle says his GPS device told him to turn onto the bridge and that he did not see the sign.

The West Virginia Division of Highways will soon be on the scene to remove the sign and inspect the bridge.
