A Wheeling woman gets a second chance at life after she loses her job and all the benefits that went with it .
“I had been there for 28 years when they filed for bankruptcy and then a new company came in and suddenly I was left without a job and insurance,” said Leslie Link
Health insurance is what Leslie Link needed the most. Not only does she suffer from migraines, she also has diabetes.
That’s when Wheeling Health Right, a United Way agency, stepped in to help.
“Our purpose is to keep people health keep people working and part of the community and people like Leslie are the very people we serve everything. They’re the people out there working and trying,” said Wheeling Health Right employee, Kathy Brown.
Health Right is a one stop shop where people like Link can get health care, medications, diabetes and health education, and more.
Link was able to get her medications for a low fee, continue seeing her current doctors and take care of her pre-existing medical conditions.
“They gave me that second chance because I had to stay healthy to go out and get another job. So they kept me on track,” said Link.
With that helping hand, Link has been able to stay in the workforce and establish a career as a real estate agent.
She now gives back to Health Right and the United Way by volunteering at fundraising events.
