Thursday the City of Wheeling Historic Landmarks Commission passed a resolution in support of keeping the piers on both sides of the Aetnaville Bridge in the event the bridge would be demolished.
Commission members say that the demolition is likely based on a recent engineering report. They say however that leaving the piers in place would make it more likely for a pedestrian bridge to be built sometime in the future.
A letter will be sent to the Army Corps of Engineers asking for their support on the matter.
