One local university is helping to meet the needs of the community by expanding it’s curriculum.
On Monday, West Liberty University announced the start up of two new graduate degree programs.
They include an online Master of Business Administration Degree, as well as a Master of Science in Criminology.
The online MBA is a thirty credit hour program that focuses on either management or entrepreneurship.
Students will have the opportunity to complete the degree in one year as a full time student or two years as part time.
“I am so thrilled with the faculty their willingness to add programs and not only just programs but programs that are needed,” said university president, Dr. Stephen Greiner.
“We went out and did a need assessment in the community to see if there was a demand for this and the response was overwhelming that people said yes we are very interested in a MBA program. We think it would be great for the community,” said Greg Chase, MBA Program Director.
“Wheeling has a decent graduate rate as based in Bachelor Degrees but the Northern Panhandle does struggle when it comes to graduate degrees per-capita and it’s a plus to have our students graduate from our program and be able to keep them here,” said Keith Bell, MSC Program Director.
The Criminology Program offers an in-classroom format that is intended to be completed in four semesters. It will prepare students for careers law enforcement as well as courtroom and corrections. It also involves a grant writing portion which has been a demand of local law enforcement over the past few years.
