A Washington County woman allegedly threw a knife at her 12-year-old daughter, then threatened to set her on fire.
Chartiers Township Police were called Sunday afternoon for a domestic dispute.
According to the criminal complaint, the two got in a heated argument, which escalated quickly.
The 12-year-old told investigators that her mother came at her with a steak knife, chased her and then threw the knife at her.
Police said that 34-year-old Adeline Steede then chased her with a lighter and threatened to set her on fire.
According to CBS affiliate KDKA, the argument began when the girl reportedly wanted cinnamon buns instead of cereal.
But Steede says it actually started over something else.
“She wanted to go back shopping again; that’s what really started it,” said Steede.
Steede says she and her daughter had gone shopping Saturday, but said the child kept nagging her, and because of Steede’s mental issues, she told KDKA that she lost it.
“The only mistake I did, I grabbed the knife out of the kitchen. I did throw it, but she was all the way down at the other end of the house,” said Steede.
Steede claims to have only thrown the lighter out into the yard.
She was arrested and spent two days in the Washington County Jail.
Steede is facing a variety of charges including simple assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
For now, the 12-year-old remains with her family. Her mother has a preliminary hearing scheduled later this month.
