Four workers have been hospitalized after being burned by a caustic chemical at the Axiall Natrium Facility in Marshall County on Friday afternoon.

The employees were injured when they were accidentally exposed to a caustic soda solution. Two of the workers were transported to the West Penn Burn Center in Pittsburgh, one was treated at a local hospital and another was released after being treated on the scene.

There is no word Friday evening on the severity of the injuries.

Axiall released a statement saying:

“This afternoon during a maintenance operation at the Axiall Natrium facility, four employees were injured when they were accidentally exposed to a caustic soda solution. The employees received on-site medical treatment, with two employees transported to Pittsburgh for further evaluation and treatment, one treated at the local hospital and one released after on-site treatment.  Our primary concern is for the well-being of all four employees and providing support for their families during this time.
