WPHS Student Awarded Scholarship for Drug Prevention Video

One local teenager was honored Friday for her efforts to help other teens stay drug free.

Wheeling Park High School sophomore Shayla McFarland was selected as a winner of an annual drug prevention and awareness sponsored by Drug Free Clubs of America. 

McFarland produced a video titled “Become the Solution.” It takes a look at the impact of different types of drugs and there effect on different people. 

She was awarded a $500 scholarship which was presented to her Friday afternoon by United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld.

“I feel it has many benefits to me and it is definitely a reason to say no to drugs,” McFarland.

Cedar Sands of Magnolia High School was also named a scholarship winner. There were a total of four winners for this year’s contest.

Each winner’s school will receive an additional $250 to celebrate within school awards and prizes.
