Monday night at the Ohio County Board of Education meeting, a $30,000 grant was announced for the Wheeling Park High School Television Department.
This unique program gives students a first hand look at the television industry.
The Modernization Grant was given by the West Virginia Department of Education. WTRF Sports Director, Scott Nolte, who also teaches at Wheeling Park, also played an important role in the process as well.
Caroline Ihlenfeld-Dillon, TV Teacher at WPHS, says they plan to use the money two different ways. Including purchasing new equipment to do play-by-play and color commentaries.
“We are going to modernize our television program,” said Ihlenfeld-Dillon. They also plan to update their set and build a custom made desk. The grant will help broadcast the school’s athletic events at home and away games as well.
This is the third time the Wheeling Park TV Department has received the award.
