This year’s high school football season might be winding down, but the 7 News crews are still out and about looking for some of the best marching in the area. Wednesday we visited the Purple Riders of Martins Ferry. They are this weeks WTRF/CA House Band of the Week.
There are 36 members in this years band. That includes a four member dance team and four member color guard.
Julia Wayne is in her 23rd year as band director. She said some of the members never even played an instrument until high school.
The kids said that being in the band is an experience they will never forget.
“I like it because you really get to be yourself,” said Destiny Miller, a band member. “The most challenging part is being able to accept that you want to challenge yourself and get better.”
Field commander Breanna Hudock keeps the show together. She said it’s her background in music that made her want to join the band.
The Riders will make the four hour trip to Ironton this Saturday for the schools first round playoff game.
Congratulations to the Martins Ferry Purple Riders, this weeks WTRF/CA House band of the week.
