WV Couple Arrested for Allegedly Taking Child’s Medication

A West Virginia couple was arrested for child neglect Monday after police discovered they had allegedly been doing drugs around children.

Bobby Karnes, 33, and Chrystal Myers, 32, of Fairmont, were arrested and charged with felony child neglect creating risk of injury to a 9-year-old family member, according to West Virginia State Police.

The victim was interviewed at school, where he told personnel he didn’t receive his medication because Karnes took half of it. He also told school personnel about other, specific forms of drug use in the home.

Police interviewed Myers following the school interview, and she told police she was aware Karnes had been taking half of the 9-year-old boy’s medication for approximately one year. She said she tried to intervene one time but that Karnes told her he would do what he wanted.

Myers also told police Karnes is hooked on Suboxone and that she tried it a couple weeks ago. Myers said she “knew she should have done something about all of this but was too scared and worried her children would be taken away.”

Karnes admitted to police he took some of the 9-year-old boy’s medication, illegally used Suboxone in the home, and had recently snorted drugs through a straw.

Myers also told police that after the school interview, Karnes yelled at the 9-year-old boy and told him to keep his mouth shut.

Karnes and Myers were arraigned in Marion County Magistrate Court. Karnes was placed on a $25,000 cash or surety bond, and Myers was placed on a $10,000 cash or surety bond.
