West Virginia’s Secretary of State was the keynote speaker for Girls State Tuesday. Natalie Tennant joined the girls for a luncheon in the Benedum Room at Wheeling Jesuit University.
Natalie Tennant told the girls they have a great opportunity spending the week at Girls State.
Tennant said this is an experience that can shape their lives for years to come. She said it’s not just a simulation of our government, but also of real life and of our responsibility as citizens.
“When you try something, when you challenge yourself, when you challenge others, when you win and lose, you can take all those experiences for what you’re going to become in two years, in five years, in 25 years,” Tennant said.
Tennant urged the girls to embrace the experience and use it well.
In her role as Secretary of State, she reminded all West Virginia business and corporation owners that annual reports are due on June 30th.
She said it’s a simple matter of reporting the address of the company and the name of its officers. They can be filed on paper or online.
The Secretary of State’s office will stay open late that day.
