The West Virginia Mountaineers are headed to the Sweet 16 after knocking off Maryland Sunday night.

The Mountaineers are headed back to their first Sweet 16 in five years.

The most notable WVU vs. Kentucky game that Mountaineer fans vividly remember is the 2010 Elite Eight win. Da’Sean Butler, Joe Mazzulla, and the rest of the Mountaineer team ended the Wildcats season after a 73-66 victory to advance to the 2010 Final Four in Indianapolis.

The following season, WVU and Kentucky met in the NCAA East regional third round game in Tampa where the Wildcats got revenge on the Mountaineers and coasted to a 71-63 victory.

As the Wildcats are enjoying a perfect 36-0 season, the Mountaineers will have a chance to make history Thursday night. Tip-off time is set at approximately 9:45 p.m. on WTRF CBS. The Mountaineers and the Wildcats will suit up against one another for the first time since 2011.

The game will be held at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.
