Shots fired near a popular restaurant over the weekend have some residents worried about their safety after two reported instances of violent acts, just within this past year.

The two acts happened near Ye Old Alpha and Edgewood Street in Wheeling. One occurred last September in which a Wheeling Jesuit student died, and the second was on Saturday where police have confirmed at least one shot was fired.

The Alpha’s co-owner, Mark Thomas, says they have taken all precautions for the safety of their customers and employees with two off duty uniformed officers on the clock at his restaurant. But, he said there’s nothing he can do about trying to control what people do outside his business.

“Once patrons leave the Alpha, and quite frankly I don’t even know if these patrons or these individuals … and I don’t even know who they are. I don’t even know if they were in the Alpha, prior to coming out, but that’s what I wanted to make it clear that there were no disturbances, and there will never be any disturbances in the Alpha because we have officers in duty there to protect our patrons and our staff,” Thomas said.

The shooting incident is still being investigated and police say they have no leads on a suspect.
