YMCA Camp Offers Kids Activities for Remainder of Winter Break

Thousands of kids across the Ohio Valley are still home from school on winter break, and parents are probably looking for ways to keep them busy outside of school.

The YMCA in Wheeling is hoping that the break from school does not mean a break from activity for local kids. Whether it is basketball, swimming or a simple game of Simon Says, kids at the winter break camp will be entertained all day.

The camp runs from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. During the week, and offers several high-energy activities for kids to burn off energy and help their working parents, while making a positive impact on their long-term health.

“It’s very important for the kids because it keeps the kids active, in shape, healthy. It gets them away from the TV’s and internet and being lazy. We promote them getting out, having a great time in a good atmosphere with a lot of nice, good people,” said Maqsood Harrington, a camp counselor at the J.B. Chambers YMCA.

The camp costs $25. Interested parents can stop by the J.B. Chambers YMCA in Elm Grove, or call 304-242-8086 with any questions. Harrington said they offer normal camp activities like basketball, kickball, swimming and some move time, but they have some female counselors teaching gymnastics this year too.
