Senator Joe Manchin helped celebrate nearly $790,000 in Affordable Housing Grants to the northern region of the state.
The projects help benefit-low income, elderly and special needs persons, providing quality affordable housing.
The YWCA received the AHP grant of $467,000 in October of last year. They are currently under the renovation process of seven new housing units.
Dozens gathered into the YWCA Tuesday morning where three more housing facilities received grants.
One of those was Mon County Habitat in Morgantown. Danielle Walker was one of the featured speakers who is directly effected.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for my kids and I. Both of my boys are disabled. I am not currently in a HUD handicap accessible unit, but my new home will be fully accessible,” Walker said.
Others to receive the grant were Fairmont Housing Authority who received $146,000 and Caritas House who received $392,000.
The AHP funds were provided by the Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh. Annually, they set aside about 10 percent of their net income to make this possible.
