American Idol finalist Gabby Barrett says hometown fans have her ready to win

Tuesday on 7News you saw hundreds of fans welcome back Pittsburgh native and American Idol finalist Gabby Barrett.

She made several stops including the Good Will in West Mifflin, her hometown of Munhall, a downtown parade, throwing the first pitch at PNC Park and a free concert for fans at The Rivers Casino.

Throughout the entire day Gabby said over and over again how thankful she was for everyone’s support, and seeing the crowds of people chanting her name even moved her to tears.

“I’m really glad I got to come home and see everybody that showed so much love and support. It really means the world to me,” she continued.

Taking the time to say hello and perform meant maybe more to fans.

“I just love her,” said Mya Brahler from Grove City, PA. “She’s an amazing singer. She’s a great performer and a lot of people look up to her.”

“She’s like me,” added Alexis Harvey from Pittsburgh. “She’s wild and fun and crazy and I thought that someone like me couldn’t go on American Idol, but I found that someone can.”

“To see the people and get to hug them and actually see them in person the people that put you where you are means everything to me,” Barrett said of her fans. “Especially my hometown, my hometown is very hard working and I know my work ethic comes from them and my dad.”

Gabby said that hard work is paying off, allowing her to grow as a performer through her American Idol journey.

“I’ve learned a lot from the judge’s critique and just learning a lot of new things,” she said of the experience. “This is just a completely different journey that I’ve experienced that I will never forget.”

Even fans from the Ohio Valley came to show support, like Passion Percussion from St. Clairsville, Ohio leading the parade.

“For her being so young she’s very talented,” said Darryck and Caitlin Yoho, who are part of Passion Percussion.

“I’m happy to be back,” Barrett said. “It’s given me that extra boost that kick in the butt to go kick butt in the finale for American Idol.”

And fans are more ready than ever to keep voting for Gabby.

“You should vote for Gabby because she inspires all her fans,” said Savannah Willard from Pittsburgh.

“I’m rooting for her,” added Sydney Hickle, who spent her birthday in the city to see Gabby Barrett’s concert. “I love her so much and I’m so excited and I really hope she makes it.”

Caitlyn Roberts: “We thought from the start she was going to and she’s already top three, so we really think she’s gonna win it all and just be the next American Idol,” said Caitlyn Roberts, who is from Buffalo, NY, but attends school in Pittsburgh.
