“Celebrate Recovery” ready to open ministry to the public

Community

Celebrate Recovery of Marshall County is getting ready to launch its ministry and is inviting the community to join in.

The goal of the group is to help anyone navigate life’s hurts, habits and hang-ups with the help of a Christ-centered program.

“The fundamental concept is that all of our problems are caused by sin and we apply the Gospel of Jesus Christ to whatever hurt, habit and hang-up manifests in our life and the root cause of that is sin,” said Ed Goodman, Director of Missions for the Upper Ohio Valley Baptist Association.

Goodman added that Celebrate Recovery isn’t just for chemical dependency. Only one in three participants seek help with that issue.

The group also supports those with eating disorders, anger issues, gambling addiction, depression and anxiety, anger, codependency, emotional or sexual abuse, dysfunctional families, relationship addiction and more.

The weekly gatherings will begin with fellowship, then break off into gender specific share groups.

Anything shared during Celebrate Recovery will be anonymous and confidential.

“It is absolutely open to everyone,” said Melissa Elliott Pastor of Transformation Christian Center. “Anyone who would want to come and be a participant, we encourage those who might not be as familiar to come and check it out.”

“No one is immune from hurts, habits and hangups so there should not be a stigma attached to this,” Goodman continued. “This should be something that we actually celebrate. That’s why it’s called Celebrate Recovery. I think the more wide spread that this acknowledgement can be that we all have hurts, habits and hangups the more impact this is gonna have in the community.”

In addition to sharing in a group setting, each person will also have a sponsor to help them through their recovery and hold them accountable.

In order to prepare for the ministry, leaders have gone through advanced training.

“We are also as leaders actually doing the same step study, 12 step study that participants will be using,” Elliott said. “We’ve just been covering the broad spectrum of the entire program and it’s been a long process, but a good one.”

The first Celebrate Recovery of Marshall County will be on Tuesday, September 4th at 6:30 p.m.

It will be held at Transformation Christian Center at 245 Jefferson Avenue in Moundsville.

Regular weekly meetings will also take place on Tuesdays at this location.
