City wide speed enforcement operation conducted

The Wheeling Police Department conducted a speed enforcement operation on Friday after receiving several complaints.

Multiple citations were issued to those failing to obey the speed limit.

Officers focused on two areas in the city: the 2100 block of National Road in Elm Grove, and the 800 block of Market Street in North Wheeling.

Proactive initiatives will continue the next several weeks and months of distracted driving, speeding, and other traffic related offenses in all areas of the city.

In North Wheeling:

  • 18 speeding citations
  • Three driving suspended or revoked
  • Average speed (in 25 mph): 40 mph
  • Highest speed was 44 mph

In Elm Grove:

  • 52 speeding citations
  • Two distracted driving citations
  • Two no proof insurance
  • Two driving suspended
  • Average speed (in 25 mph): 43 mph
  • Highest speed was 50 mph

These proactive initiatives will continue the next several weeks and months on distracted driving, speeding, and other traffic related offenses in all areas of the city.

Funding is being provided by the WV Governors Highway Safety Program.
