Officials are advising motorists to be cautious in the coming months while construction is being done on I-70.
In order for Tunnel Ridge, LLC to do some long wall mining under the interstate, section of the highway in each direction near the West Virginia-Pennsylvania state line will be down to one lane as a result of the construction.
The speed limit is also going to be dropped to 45 mph, so drivers will definitely want to give yourself some extra time if this is part of their daily commute.
Ohio County Sheriff Tom Howard says that motorists should expect delays and to be ready for them.
“Be cautious, drive through the area very slowly,” said Ohio County Sheriff Tom Howard. “It’s normally a 70 mph zone right through there. So you’re going to want to go very very slow just for the protection of the motorists and the workers.”
He also says drivers should always make sure their tanks are full in case of those delays.
Officers from the Ohio County Sheriff Department will be on scene in case there are any issues. The project is expected to last through the end of May.
