The West Virginia Department of Agriculture is helping 36 counties spay and neuter animals in their shelters and animal control agencies.

Locally, Wetzel County will receive a $1 million grant to make sure their animals get fixed.

The Spay and Neuter program was established in 2013, but was unfunded until House Bill 2552 was passed by the Legislature, and signed into law by Governor Jim Justice last year.

The Department of Agriculture plans to award more grants as more money becomes available.
