Organizers for the 2018 Wheeling Vintage Raceboat Regatta were going over the final details Monday evening, before the event.
Come Labor Day weekend, Heritage Port in Wheeling will see older racing hydroplanes roaring down the Ohio River to the delight of fans. Planners said regatta sponsors like WesBanco have kept the event a part of Wheeling and this 13th annual edition promises big things.
“We are over 50 boats. Just for comparison, last year we had 37 boats, and the two years before that, we were at 32 each. So, to be over 50 is just amazing. They’re very, very excited about that. It’s going to be an incredible weekend out there,” said Co-Chair, Wheeling Vintage Raceboat Regatta Debbie Joseph.
From the Regatta’s inception, the powerboat racers have raised money for Easter Seals. As of last year, Easter Seals has received over $70,000 from the event.
