High winds may be more of a threat than creek flooding in Belmont County

BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio (WTRF) - Belmont County EMA Director Dave Ivan says the next weather event coming our way may be high winds.

Ivan says he has driven along the county's creeks, and says they are high but not full or overflowing -- but he says winds are expected from 10 to 25 miles per hour, with gusts up to 50 miles per hour.

He says those gusts can send garbage cans and porch furniture sailing, and create hazards.

He urges Belmont County residents to secure any loose outdoor items.

AEP has alerted the EMA that they expect the possibility of power line breaks if the winds are high enough.
