MOUNDSVILLE, W.V.a. (WTRF) - Since he was 15 years old, Moundsville Fire Department Assistant Chief Kevin Kimple has been fighting fires in Marshall County.
For him, the fire service is all about tradition, family, and the people you're fighting with.
The assistant chief said he is so proud of his department today. They've just added new men and women, and would like to hire two to three more by the end of the year.
Inside his office he looked back in time, showing dozens of photos, news paper articles, pictures, awards and memories from over the years.
This is a second career for him, he started as a volunteer and worked full time as a heating and air conditioning technician. It took over a decade for him to realize he needed to follow his heart.
"I've always thought I wanted to do it as a career, I want to be paid for something I love to do, and I got into it and I love it," said Kimple.
The department has given him a second family, along with two of his best friends, Chief Gary Brandon and the late chief Noel Clarke.
Gold, Khourey, and Turak will be helping the department put up plaques around the firehouse in Noel's honor.
