The biggest MegaMillions jackpot was $1.6 billion in January 2016.
Right now it’s more than $667 million and still rising.
Ohio Valley residents are already planning how to spend their winnings.
The odds of winning are one on 302.5 million.
But at the Ohio Valley Mall, they were keeping the customer service booth busy.
They weren’t calculating their odds.
They were already mentally counting their winnings–and spending them.
“I have five grown grandchildren, three grown children and nine great grandchildren,” said Elizabeth Taylor of Moundsville. “I won’t have a bit of trouble spending that money!”
“I’ll go back home to the state of Louisiana,” noted Kent Boddie of West Monroe, Louisiana.
“I’m going to buy ten tickets,” said Butch Murray of Tiltonsville. “If I win, I’ll go ahead and retire.”
“My wife will help me spend it,” said Harry Pfeffer of Barnesville. “I bought ten dollars of each (MegaMillions and Poweball.) So if it’s in the cards, I’ll win it.”
“It’s going to be a family thing,” said Martha Mills of Cadiz. “Everybody in the family’s going to retire. I’m retired, but now they can retire too.”
“Most people are doing like ten dollars, twenty dollars on the Mega,” said Erma Zann, Mall Customer Service booth employee. “The Powerball’s a little bit high too. So a lot of people are doing a combination ten on Mega, ten on Powerball. A little bit ago, I had somebody spend a hundred dollars on tickets.”
One man who buys only Cash Explosion tickets said he finally decided to buy one MegaMillions ticket to cheer up his wife, who has a broken hip.
$667 million would probably cheer her up a lot.
The winning numbers were 69, 45, 61, 3, 49 and the megaball was 9.
