Jerry’s Walk – Illuminating Suicide Awareness is a non-profit organization dedicated to suicide prevention and awareness.
On Sunday, the organization held its second Suicide Awareness Walk at St. Clairsville-Richland Township Memorial Park.
Jerry’s Walk was created in honor of Jerry Williams, who died from suicide in 2011.
His family organizes the fundraiser not only to raise money, but to bring those who have been affected by suicide together and to raise awareness.
“It’s the tenth leading cause of death in this country, so it’s something that we really need to deal with. Our purpose is to bring it out into the light so that people talk about it and people then who are suffering will not feel that they can’t go get help,” said Sandy Williams, President of Jerry’s Walk.
Jerry’s Walk uses the money to help fund suicide prevention programs for local schools and community organizations and training for counselors who work with those who are struggling.
