GLEN DALE, W Va. (WTRF) - Some good news out of Marshall County, John Marshall graduate Kassie Frohnapfel is one of 44 winners nationwide to win the 2018 AEP Educational Trust Scholarship.
Over a three-year period, Kassie will receive $8,000 to use on tuition or books as she attends West Virginia University.
Kassie will receive $3,000 for her freshman year, $2,500 for her sophomore year and $2,500 for her junior year.
She said she's thrilled to be selected.
"I was so excited. I honestly didn't think I had a chance to win, especially with all of the amazing candidates across the United States. So, it was an amazing feeling," Frohnapfel said.
"We're really proud of her. It makes us feel really great. I'm very fortunate to work for a company that can do something like this. We appreciate it very much," added Patrick Frohnapfel, her father.
Winners were selected based on their class rank, GPA, leadership abilities, etcetera.
All winners are also children of AEP system employees.
Since the scholarship program began, AEP has given out 1,997 awards totaling $9.2 million.
