With a week until Christmas, stores across the Ohio Valley are packed as people finish up their Christmas shopping.
From the Ohio Valley Mall to The Highlands, parking lots are full, and store lines are long.
This season, shoppers have remembered their local treasures too, visiting small businesses for their Christmas gifts.
Wheeling Vice Mayor Chad Thalman says Centre Market business owners have seen a large increase of customers this year.
“Business owners I’ve spoken to feel that this Christmas season has been a good one so far so they have seen an increase in sales and they are looking forward to the next several weeks,” he said.
Thalman said businesses are also noticing that more people are using the parking garages, which frees up parking spaces for shoppers to park closer to the businesses.
Parking meters in Wheeling are free on the weekends and in the evenings.
