Local dancers prepare for national collegiate competition

Community

Two local dancers are preparing for a big opportunity this week.

They will be competing as members of the West Virginia University Dance Team at the NCA and NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship.

Annie Fox from Wheeling and Ashley Visnic from Shadyside are both freshmen at W-V-U, and this will be their first national competition with the team.

They will leave Tuesday for Daytona, Florida and will compete Thursday and Friday.

They say they owe much of their dance success and preparedness for a collegiate competition to their dance studio, LDT Dance Centre in St. Clairsville.

“I had an excellent dance background that they gave me, and I learned teamwork and how to work hard and balance school and extra-curricular activities. I was able to try out for a college dance team, and the transition hasn’t been too difficult. They really prepared me for that,” said Fox.

They say they were inspired to try out for WVU’s dance team as freshmen by their fellow dancer Sarah Zink.

Zink danced at LDT Dance Centre as well and went on to join the dance team at Ohio State University.

Good luck to Annie and Ashley as they compete against hundreds of other schools from across the country!
