Wheeling’s department of Parks of Recreation is re-organizing for the new year.
Director of Parks and Strategic Planning Jesse Mestrovic will be assuming the role of Director as longtime director Tom Bechtel retires.
Bechtel served in that position for nearly 45 years.
The transition will go through on Wednesday.
However, Bechtel won’t leave the department all together.He’s taking a part time position as I-470 Ball Park Director.
Both talk about their plans for the future and Bechtel’s years of service for the city.
I-470 Ball Park Director, Tom Bechtel said, “Really looking forward to the ball fields. I think there is a lot of things we can do up there and now I can put full time emphasis on that and I feel like things are really going to happen up at 470.”
Parks and Recreation Director, Jesse Mestrovic said, “My previous position was more infrastructure based and building play grounds and parks and trying to revitalize those but now I have the new position taking over the recreation realm and looking forward to new programming, new events, new activities for our citizens of Wheeling.”
Bechtel said he knows he is leaving his old job in greats hands and is excited to start this new chapter.
