On Friday eighth-graders from across the Mountain State received recognition as Knights of the Golden Horseshoe.

221 students received the prestigious award for their outstanding knowledge of West Virginia history and culture.

The Golden Horseshoe test has been administered every year since 1931, and tests students’ knowledge on a variety of topics, including economics, geography, history, and current events.

The awards were presented by West Virginia Superintendent of Schools Dr. Steven Paine, and Governor Jim Justice was also in attendance.
