The month of April is being celebrated as National Donate Life Month.
The goal is to encourage people to register as organ, eye and tissue donors and to recognize those who have saved lives through donations.
According to national statistics over 100,000 people are currently on the waiting list for organ donations, and a new person is added to the list every 10 minutes.
“The one thing I like to ask people is that if you had the person that you love the most need a transplant or they were going to die tomorrow would you accept that organ. I think that most people would say yes, why would you not be willing to donate as well,” said Ambassador, Center for Organ Recovery and Education, Jody Miller.
Celebrations are planned throughout the state, with events like flag raisings to help raise awareness about the need for donations.
