Mother’s Day is a time when we celebrate the women in our lives that have shaped us into who we are today.
For some women, Sunday marks their first Mother’s Day as a mom–making the day even more special.
Kristy Williams celebrated Mother’s Day last year while pregnant, but this year she is celebrating with her four-month-old daughter Ellie.
“I’m actually a mom. I actually get to say that I’m a mom on Mother’s Day. I know you’re still a mom when you’re pregnant, but it’s kind of surreal,” said Kristy.
This is Katelyn Hull first Mother’s Day, too. She is spending it with her five-month-old son Aiden.
“It’s the most rewarding–hard, but very rewarding job ever,” said Katelyn.
Being a mom means something a little different to everyone, but both Kristy and Katelyn can agree that it is hard work.
They also agree that it is worth every sleepless night.
Kristy says her favorite moments are in the morning when Ellie greets her from her crib with a smile.
She says the first two months were the hardest, but now they are getting the hang of it.
“It’s like you read all the books and you watch all the movies. It doesn’t even compare to when you actually have the baby. When I was in the hospital I remember just crying and freaking out. How am I going to know when to change her diaper? How am I going to know when to feed her? The best advice I got was just go with it,” said Kristy.
Katelyn says she never thought she would be a mom this soon, but she is grateful every day.
She says to her, motherhood means being fearless.
“Now I’m the one checking the basement for all the scary noises. It is just so overwhelming, but in the best way possible with love and joy and responsibility,” said Katelyn.
Although this is their first Mother’s Day, it is truly just like any other day as mom. They are both spending it at home with their kids.
