Ogden Newspapers Half Marathon makes improvements

It’s a tradition in the Friendly City that spans over four decades.

The Ogden Newspapers Half Marathon is one of Wheeling’s biggest events and it’s less than two weeks away.

There will be some exciting changes this year and they are sure to make this year’s race one to remember for all runners

Hundreds of local, regional and world-class runners will take to the Street of Wheeling next Saturday.

Race officials said they are expecting one of the biggest and most competitive fields in recent years.

Registration number are up considerably from this time last year.

That’s due in part to a new cooperate challenge between the Health Plan and Wes Banco.

Assistant Race Director,  Joe Lovell said, “It brought our numbers up tremendously. It’s just participant ad how many people they have for each company that actually wants to be part of the race, whether that is the 5K or half marathon. So their challenge is to see who gets the most participants.”

The business with the most participants will receive a traveling trophy.

Lovell said they hope to expand that challenge to more businesses in the coming year.

The most exciting addition is that for the first time ever all participants will have the opportunity to receive free action photos.

Emotive, a software company that specializes in race photography will have photographers stationed along the course.

Participants will be able to receive the photos the day of the race.

The service is being sponsored by Panhandle Cleaning and Restoration.

Panhandle Cleaning & Restoration, Josh Contraguerro said, “Theses individuals in the 5K or half marathon train almost all year getting ready to compete. Then at the end of the day they want to be able to share with their family wether it’s nearby or far away photos of the event. We know that people take pictures before and after the race with their own cameras  before and after the event. We just wanted to give that added value to all of the participants.”

Registration and the awards ceremony will take place this year at River City Ale works.

Runners will be able to enjoy a delicious pasta buffet there as well.

The event gets underway on Saturday morning, May 26th at 7:30 with the half marathon walk, and the run will begin at 8.
