More construction will be coming to The Highlands, but this construction doesn’t fall into the retail or light industrial category.
The Ohio County Development Authority awarded bids to build a planned $30 million sports complex at its regular meeting on Tuesday, hoping to begin construction within a month.
Ohio County Commissioner Randy Wharton said the complex will house indoor basketball courts and soccer fields, as well as two multi-purpose outdoor fields.
Wharton also said the new complex complements existing development.
“You put those two projects together — the Highlands Events Center, and the sports complex, which are basically in the same proximity — it’s a great anchor on that end of The Highlands, just like Cabela’s is on the northern end,” Wharton added.
Wharton says the winning contract to build the new sports complex calls for 220 days of construction, which is about seven months and a week or so.
