One restaurant decided to give back this Labor Day to one of our local fire departments by feeding them a hearty meal.
Since 2002, Olive Garden has served more than 12,000 meals to first responders on Labor Day. For the 17th consecutive year, all of its more than 850 restaurants nationwide will demonstrate the brand’s spirit of Italian generosity by delivering a free “thank you” lunch to a first responder organization in their community as a way to give back to those who protect and serve each and every day.
Nothing but full stomachs and smiling faces were at the Wheeling Fire Department Monday as they got that very special gift for Labor Day.
Olive Garden delivered a full lunch buffet to the hungry firemen this afternoon. They had spaghetti, fettuccine alfredo, salad, and their famous breadsticks.
Everyone enjoyed every bite, and our local heroes can’t thank Olive Garden enough for the generous meal. Wheeling Fire Assistant Chief Lawrence Murphy says, “We’re really grateful. Basically, it’s not the sense that we’re getting something. It’s the fact that somebody appreciates our job, and we appreciate them also.”
Emily Megna was the Olive Garden Delivery Specialist who delivered the tasty meal, and she says, “At the Olive Garden, it’s really important for us to give back to the community. We have the capability of being able to deliver to the community anywhere, and so this is just the perfect place. We like to serve those who serve us.”
Murphy says that a good meal will never be turned down at the fire department, and they’ll be happy to receive anything sent to them. 7News would like to thank all of our hard-working and dedicated service personnel that protect and serve us every day.
