If you’re the parent of a toddler, you may know that finding childcare can be a difficult task.
For one Belmont County couple, they said they felt they had found a facility that was best suited for their kids, but as it turns out, they alleged that one member of the staff at Valley Christian Childcare Center was caught on tape assaulting their 18-month-old daughter.
“We didn’t want to accuse anyone of anything that we didn’t know anything about, that’s why we went to the daycare to request to see the video and see exactly what was going on. You know, we were shown that she was kicked,” said the girl’s mother, Mariel Ficher.
The couple said they first learned of the alleged incident when their son, who also attends the same daycare, came home and said he saw his baby sister being kicked by the teacher as he walked by her classroom.
They then went to the facility and saw the video for themselves.
“While my daughter is on her belly, just kicking her feet, and places her foot on her and kicks her,” said the girl’s father, Brandon Coyne.
According to a copy of the incident report that the parents received from the daycare, it says “Found incident. Tape IS saved on devices in the office” on the back.
The Belmont County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that they are currently looking into the matter.
“We requested the video, which we were told by the owners, absolutely not. I then asked if they had contacted law enforcement and they said no it’s not their job,” Coyne said.
When asked about the situation, Childcare Center Administrator Ashley Hatfield said that they deny the allegations and that they did not wish to make any further comment until an investigation was completed.
“We haven’t been notified of anything new, and the investigation is still ongoing. You know, we’re scared now for anyone to watch our kids, because we trust somebody with our children and something like this happens,” Fisher added.
