The smell of asphalt and road improvements are in the air in many Wheeling neighborhoods as the city continues with street paving projects.
Council members said this is one of the largest projects the city has ever done, with the total project costing the city nearly a million dollars.
So far, crews have completed 19 of the 44 projects.
Still to come though is the paving of the Wheeling bike trail from Warwood to the Pike Island Locks and Dam.
Wheeling City Manager Bob Herron said the project is right on schedule and will be finished sooner than you think.
“The goal, weather permitting, is still to have all 44 streets done before Thanksgiving. We’re on pace to do that, but again, it’s weather permitting,” Herron said.
