The Ohio Valley came together in downtown Wheeling on Friday night for the annual Perkins Restaurants and Bakery Fantasy in Lights Parade presented by Wheeling Hospital to kick off the holiday season!
Despite the cold temperatures, the community came out in full force. Some people even ventured in from outside of the Ohio Valley, just to watch the parade.
One family from Washington, Pennsylvania has attended the last 23 parades in Wheeling.
“We, I love the town. I like the decorations. The parade’s awesome,” said Billy Jo. “I like it better than Pittsburgh. You don’t have the crowds as much.”
Spectators were securing their spots on the sidewalks more than an hour before the parade kicked off.
Some of them stayed warm with the help of hot chocolate.
The energy was present, even before the floats started to move.
“It’s gonna be an awesome parade! I drive an hour and a half to get here. It’s gonna be a good one,” said Tim from Bolivar, Ohio.
The parade featured marching bands, local businesses, the Salvation Army and many more organizations.
This year’s parade had a New York feel to it. For the first time ever, Macy’s donated a few of its famous balloons to a smaller community and three of them were part of this parade.
With Thanksgiving just around the corner, it’s safe to say that the holiday season has begun in the Ohio Valley.
Also, congratulations to all of the winners in today’s Watch and Win!
