Police identify passenger killed in Belmont County accident


UPDATE: Authorities have identified the man killed in a fatal accident that happened Wednesday morning.

Ohio State Highway Patrol has named Robert J. Hartley, 52 of Neffs, as the victim.

Two other people were hospitalized for non-life threatening injuries.

ORIGINAL: One person is dead and two more are hospitalized after two pickup trucks collided near Neffs this morning, according to Ohio State Highway Patrol.

One of the trucks was white, and the other was gray. The passenger of the gray truck was pronounced dead at the scene, while both of the drivers have been hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

According to Lt. James Faunda, the white truck had traveled off the center of the roadway when the gray truck came around the bend. While both drivers tried to avoid the collision, an impact on the passenger side of the gray truck forced the vehicle off the roadway and into a tree.

Nobody in either truck was wearing a seat belt.

The accident happened at 7:45 this morning on Willow Grove Road near Neffs, according to Lt. Faunda, Post Commander for OSHP. The road was shut down for several hours as first responders, highway patrol troopers and the deputy coroner examined the scene.

The identities of the victims have not yet been released.
