Project HOPE helping the homeless in the Ohio Valley

Community

Homelessness is a national issue, including right here in the Ohio Valley.

The Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department’s Project HOPE works to aid homeless people in the area.

This group is a combination of medical professionals and volunteers.

Led by Dr. William Mercer, the local Project HOPE brings food and water to those in need, as well as performs medical exams that they may not receive otherwise.

While it is common thought that homelessness affects only a certain group of people, it can happen to anyone.

“We are all truly the same. We are all human beings and have the same basic human needs,” said  Crystal Bauer, RN,  Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department Homeless Outreach Program. “So while we don’t necessarily advocate for everyone going out and helping the homeless, or even giving money, just show kindness.”

If you want to volunteer with Project HOPE, contact the Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department.
